Every year, 2.2 million people die, that means that approximately every 21 seconds a child dies; but what is the reason they die? almost 1 billion people die because of water-borne diseases, that 1/7 of the world population don't have access to clean water. 4,100 die from the contaminated water. These people don't have other choice but to drink this water, kids cant go to school because they have to walk approximately 3.75 miles barefoot with their mothers to collect a few buckets of water. These places that do have water are rally far from most people so it takes a lot of time for kids to get an education and a lot of people die and get sick because of this. That is why the thirst project was created.
The thirst project first started with a 19 year old college freshman, when he first heard about the water crisis, he couldnt just stand there and not do anything about it. He invited 7 of his closest friend and told them to help raise awareness. they united all the money that they had which was $70 dollars, and with that money they were able to buy 1,000 water bottles. They started giving water bottles away to the people as they tell them about the water crisis, they were able to raise awareness to about 1,000 people and turned $70 to $1,700 dollars. They later went back to0 their own lives, as people started calling them to their schools and churches to tell people about this they decided to start an organization, and the thirst project was born.
What the thirst project does, is collect money from people to make wells in places that don't have clean water. What these wells do is filter the water and give people clean fresh water. As this seems so simple, the problem is the money. Like anything else money is always the problem; these wells cost around $7,800 in Uganda to $20,000 in Kenya. One well can provide water to about 500 people, which can really save lives. People should really collect money for this and spread awareness about this. While most people like you and I have access to clean water some people cant but we should really donate money for this because you don't only help people out, you make yourself feel better. When I was telling people about it, it really feels good when you notice that your helping out. I was telling my mom about this water problem is this poor countries she decided to give me a dollar, so that is how i collect my dollar and helped spread awareness,
